text_font_size=&#8221;16px&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Cooling towers are specialized heat exchangers in which air and water are brought into direct contact with each other to reduce the water\u2019s temperature. As this occurs, a small volume of water is evaporated, reducing the temperature of the water being circulated through the tower.<\/p>\n<p>Water heated by an industrial process or an HVAC system condenser is pumped to the cooling tower through piping, which is then sprayed through nozzles onto layers of heat transfer media called \u201cfill.\u201d Fill helps to slow the flow of water through the cooling tower and creates greater surface area for the water to spread for maximum air-water contact.<\/p>\n<p>As the water flows down the fill, air is being pulled through the tower by a motor-driven fan. When the water and air meet, a small amount of water is evaporated through the evaporative cooling process.
